Community involvement
Student Advocacy, Inc. is the leading education advocacy organization in Westchester and Putnam Counties. Our advocate attorneys work to understand the educational needs of our clients, and protect their educational rights. As a nonprofit organization, we often participate on panels, provide parent trainings’, and conduct professional development on a variety of education/special education-related topics and laws.
Please watch our latest work in conjunction with the Westchester Children’s Association (WCA), where Stefanie Shabman, Student Advocacy’s Legal Director, participated in a discussion on the criminalization of black girls within the school system. The film PUSHOUT fostered the basis for this critical conversation on racial equity in schools.
Since 2011, Student Advocacy has received support from the Westchester Women’s Bar Association Foundation. Our education advocates/attorneys have been long-standing members of the WWBA Education Law Committee.
In October 2020, Student Advocacy’s Legal Director was a panelist in a WWBA program on Immigrant Student rights in the public school system.
